Zootrain Beekeeping Courses

We’ve designed our beekeeping courses to be modular so you can pick and choose depending on your interest and level of beekeeping knowledge. All classes are held in Regent's Park in Central London.

Introduction to Beekeeping Class - 1 day

At the end this class, you’ll know what’s involved in beekeeping and honey production, and whether you want to keep your own bees.

£65 10.30am to 3.30pm (4 hours, 1 hour lunch break)

Course content:

  • Life of the honey bee and a colony
  • Plight of the honey bee – what is happening to the bees?
  • Honey and how is it made
  • Benefits of urban beekeeping
  • What’s involved in urban beekeeping (space, equipment, time commitment)
  • Handling of bees inside a hive (weather permitting)

Beekeeping Beginner’s Course - 5 weeks

At the end of this course, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to set up and manage your own hive. To ensure everyone gets individual attention, there are no more than 25 people in each course with two tutors. The practical session in the apiary will have no more than 7 people

4 x weekday evenings 7.30pm-9.30pm in classroom, 1 x weekend 2 hour apiary session

  1. Theory: Honey bee. Queen, workers & drones. Lifecycles. Bee products.
  2. Theory: Importance of beekeeping. Bees' nest. Hive inspections. Beekeeping year.
  3. Theory: Healthy bees. Disease & pests. Swarming.
  4. Theory: Hive components. Equipment. Getting started. Suitability of apiary sites.
  5. Practical: Hive inspection. Apiary visit.
